DAVAO CITY -- Two alleged robbers died in a shootout with police in Brgy. Angalan, Tugbok, Davao City on Sunday night, authorities said.
One of the suspects were identified as Ronaldo Panes.
Davao City Police Director Vicente Danao Jr. said they have been looking for the two suspects who were tagged in various robbery incidents in Calinan, Mintal, and Tugbok districts.
Authorities received a report of a robbery in a nearby area prior to the encounter.
Mintal Police Station chief Ariel Alcala believes that the suspects used Brgy. Angalan as an escape route because it is a steep and narrow area, which is passable by motorcyle.
The suspects were intercepted after checkpoints were set up in the area.
They sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of their bodies.
An identification card and P200 were recovered from Panes, while P1,000 was recovered from the unidentified suspect.
A 9mm hand gun, a caliber .38 pistol, and live ammunition were also recovered from the suspects.
Authorities are investigating if the two slain suspects were members of an organized robbery group in Davao City. -- report from Darlene Dela Cruz, ABS-CBN News Southern Mindanao
