MANILA -- A local theme park received flak on social media on Thursday for a stunt involving dolphins and a marriage proposal on Thursday.
In a set of photos posted on the Facebook page of Ocean Adventure theme park in Subic, a happy couple is seen posing with a dolphin, with the words "Will You Marry Me Rona?" painted across the animal's belly.
"Congratulations Ronaleen and Arthur! Best wishes for you lovely couple. Thank you for making Ocean Adventure part of this magical love story of yours," the Facebook page said.
As of posting, the photos have already been taken down by Ocean Adventure from the social media site.
But the photos has since drew flak from netizens, despite the theme park's disclosure that the "material used for the dolphin is ZINC OXIDE - sun protection and moisturizer applicable for dolphin."
Netizens said they only had the safety of the dolphin in mind as most of them still expressed their well-wishes for the newly engaged couple.
Not the first time
The stunt, pulled off ahead of Valentines' Day, was not the first time dolphins have played a part in a couple's love story.
A quick search in the popular video-sharing site YouTube yields several results, with couples swimming and playing around with dolphins in various theme parks and resorts around the world before proposing to their partners.
In the several videos, the dolphins were seen to be jumping around in the background while the couples ask their respective partners' hand in marriage.
