MANILA -- A landmine was found by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) personnel beside a road in Sitio Manga, Barangay Tagdangua, in Pantukan, Compostela Valley on Thursday morning.
It was accidentally discovered by DPWH personnel while they were gathering firewood. They immediately reported it to the police.
The Explosive Ordnance Division of the Compostela Valley Provincial Police Office rushed to the scene to defuse the landmine.
Arnolfo Llenado said they were not aware that what they found is a landmine.
Aside from the cylindrical anti-vehicle and anti-personnel landmine, authorities also recovered a blasting cap and more than 100 meters of electrical wire.
Investigators believe that the landmine, which was probably placed beside the road early in the morning, was meant for soldiers who were hauling gasoline for a helicopter being used by the 701st Brigade in Davao Oriental. - report from Claire Cornelio, ABS-CBN Southern Mindanao
