The National Association of Electricity Consumers for Reforms (NASECORE) on Tuesday said energy regulators violated consumers' right to due process when it allowed Manila Electric Company (Meralco) to automatically pass on to consumers the adjustments in generation costs.
De Vera pointed out that in a petition also filed by NASECORE in 2006, the high court came out with a ruling, which pointed out violation of due process when Meralco automatically passed on to consumers rate adjustments without publication.
Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares, meanwhile, said the Energy Regulatory Commission committed grave abuse of discretion when it hastily approved without hearing and investigation the P4.15 per kilowatt hour rate increase.
He cited highly irregular events, which Colmenares said should have prevented the regulators from allowing the increase. -- ANC Top Story, January 21, 2014
