MANILA, Philippines – Filipino Grand Master Wesley So will face Cuban GM Leinier Dominguez in the eighth round of the 76th Tata Steel Tournament in Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam today.
Both So and Dominguez are coming off a one-day break from the competition after scoring draws against separate foes.
So, the top player of the Philippines, split the point with GM Sergey Karjakin of Russia after 51 moves of Queens Indian Defense to move to a three-way tie for fourth place.
Dominguez also drew with GM Arkadij Naiditsch of Germany in his own seventh round assignment.
Both So and Dominguez have 4.0 points to share fourth place with GM Fabiano Caruana of Italy.
Top seeded GM Levon Aronian of Armenia remains on top of the leaderboard with 5.5 points even after settling for a draw with GM Boris Gelfand of Israel. -- By Marlon Bernardino
