MANILA - It was a concert graced by over a hundred Kapamilya stars and celebrities but it was a band composed of four brothers, who hail from Tacloban City, that drew the only standing ovation of the night.
The Reo Brothers, who arrived in Manila two weeks ago after from their typhoon-ravaged hometown, put memories of "Yolanda" behind them, and took to the stage a medley of The Beatles' hits such as "Here Comes the Sun" and "Hey Jude."
"Sobrang saya po. Hindi namin to ini-expect talaga. Grabe, sobrang saya," exclaimed RJ in an interview with ABS-CBN News after their applauded performance on Tuesday.
The band, composed of brothers Reno, RJ, Raymart and Ralph, admittedly felt nervous as they faced a packed Araneta Coliseum Tuesday night.
"Siyempre, sobrang kaba," said Reno, the eldest among the siblings.
Their nervousness only grew when the enthusiastic crowd at ABS-CBN's "Kwento ng Pasko: Pag-asa at Pagbangon" kept asking for more after each song.
Closing their set with the popular lyrics, "Take a sad song and make it better," the brothers hoped that their performance would serve as an inspiration to those still recovering in their hometown.
"Para po sa mga taga Tacloban, wag po tayo mauubusan ng pag-asa na magkaroon ng panibagong buhay at lagi po natin isipin na nandyan parati si Lord," said Raymart.
Watch "Kwento ng Pasko, Pag-Asa, at Pagbangon (2013 ABS-CBN Christmas Special)” on Dec. 14 and 15, 9:30 p.m. on Channel 2.
