MANILA – Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. reportedly wants a world title fight when he returns to the ring sometime in April or May.
Top Rank promotions’ Bob Arum told Boxing Scene’s Ronnie Nathanielsz that Donaire has two options in mind for the 2014 bout.
“[Donaire] wants to fight for a world title and he might fight Nicholas Walters, the WBA champion or Evgeny Gradovich, the IBF champion,” the promoter said.
Walters recently retained his featherweight title against Alberto Garza, and unbeaten Gradovich stopped Billy Dib in a rematch.
Donaire is currently nursing a broken cheek bone, which he sustained in his rematch against Vic Darchinyan last month.
His manager Cameron Dunkin said the injury is “healing very, very well.”
“It would be great if he can come back in April and I would do his fight on HBO around the time I am doing Manny Pacquiao’s fight [also in April],” said Arum.
