MANILA - A newly-elected barangay chairman, and a barangay councilor were shot dead in Barangay Mariquet in Solsona, Ilocos Norte on Monday night.
The victims were identified as Edgar Paraiso, barangay chairman of Mariquet, and Rogelio Baguio, barangay councilor. Paraiso's 8-year old son, Justin, was also hurt.
According to the police, Paraiso and Baguio were having a conversation inside Paraiso's house when an unidentified gunman fired at them from outside.
The incident happened at around 8:00 in the evening.
Both Paraiso and Baguio were dead upon arrival at the hospital. Paraiso's son is still in critical condition.
An M-16 rifle was used in the crime.
Police are looking at the incident's connection to a previous carnapping incident in the barangay. Paraiso's tricycle was taken, and the suspects were caught. The barangay chairman filed charges against the suspects.
