MANILA -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will start selling construction materials through its Diskwento Caravan in Tacloban City on Wednesday.
According to DTI Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Stanley Tabiando, they will sell construction supplies in addition to basic goods, as residents also look for materials they can use to rebuild their houses destroyed by typhoon "Yolanda."
He added that they will give 10%-15% discount in the prices of nails, galvanized iron, wood, and other construction materials.
The caravan will be at RTR Plaza in Tacloban City from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, the DTI assured residents that there will be no price increase in basic needs in Eastern Visayas, except for gasoline and rice. The agency does not have any control over the prices of these two items.
Some small stores may increase the prices of their products, but grocery stores and supermarkets are being monitored by the DTI and would not be allowed to increase their prices.
The agency will continue monitoring the prices of items in areas severely damaged by the typhoon. -- with reports from Dennis Datu, dzMM
