MANILA -- Two more US Navy ships arrived in Leyte on Thursday to help in the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts in areas devastated by typhoon "Yolanda".
The USS Ashland and USS Germantown came from a US naval base at Okinawa, Japan.
The ships brought marine expeditional units, naval beach units, and amphibious squadrons.
The ships also carried heavy equipment that will be used to clear debris from roads, water tankers, trucks to be used for distribution of relief goods, and amphibian vehicles.
The USS George Washington earlier arrived in the country.
Seven other US Navy ships and 80 aircraft are also currently involved in relief and clearing operations in typhoon-struck areas in the Visayas. -- report from Noel Alamar, dzMM
