MANILA – At least P37 million worth of illegal drugs were seized in a buy-bust operation in Quezon City before dawn on Tuesday.
Operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested Chinese couple Qiao Wen Jiang alias "Alan" and Xiao Xia Chai alias "Angela" during a buy-bust operation along Timog Avenue.
The Chinese nationals were arrested after selling a kilogram of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) to an undercover agent.
During a search after the couple's arrest, PDEA personnel retrieved six more kilograms of shabu and four packs of ecstasy.
Atty. Jac De Guzman, PDEA – National Capital Region director, said the agency had been monitoring the movements of the Chinese nationalS for three months.
The seized shabu packs are worth P35 million, while the ecstasy tablets are worth P2 million. The ecstasy tablet has a street value of P1,000 per tablet, PDEA said.
De Guzman revealed the suspects also tried to bribe the PDEA agents.
"Ang suspetsa namin miyembro sila ng triad...Sa deal marunong sila...Pagkahuli sa kanila sabi nila bigay kami pera pitong milyon," De Guzman said.
