MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Airlines (PAL) airlifted medical teams, a psychosocial team, medicines, and other supplies to Tacloban City on Monday for free to assist survivors of typhoon “Yolanda.”
Eight teams of more than 70 medical practitioners were airlifted upon the request of the Department of Health (DOH).
Medicines, medical equipment, and other supplies were sent to help DOH in its efforts. Authorities said the Eastern Visayas Medical Center is the only functional hospital in Tacloban.
“We will do everything we can to assist in government’s efforts to respond to the needs of our countrymen,” said PAL president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang.
“We will continue to coordinate closely with government agencies to see where we can help. We are prepared to extend assistance any way we can,” he added.
PAL also said it had started airlifting critical supplies and relief goods from government agencies and other groups for free.
