MANILA -- Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes said the poll body cannot just launch investigations of vote-buying allegations if there is no evidence backing the claims.
In a press briefing, Brillantes said it is usually the losing candidates who accuse their rivals of buying votes in the barangay elections.
"Vote-buying is a very sensitive act, which means we need evidence to prove [it]. Hindi ho pwede yung kwento-kwento lang," he said.
Brillantes also appealed to the media to refrain from reporting alleged vote-buying incidents without enough proof.
"Kung lahat ho ng kwento ng vote-buying pakikinggan natin, eh [pano] lahat naman ho nagkukwento eh," he said.
