MANILA (2nd UPDATE) - Basketball fans continue to scrounge for tickets of Game 2 of the UAAP Basketball Finals between University of Sto. Tomas and De La Salle University on Saturday, October 5, at the Araneta Coliseum.
The tickets for Game 2 were already sold out as early as Thursday, to the frustration of many fans who lined up in front of the Araneta Coliseum’s yellow gate as early as 6 a.m.
Scalpers, meanwhile, are making a killing by selling UAAP tickets online at a steep price.
One seller offered patron tickets, typically sold at P400 each, for P45,000. He also offered general admission tickets at P4,000 each.
Another seller is hawking his Upper A ticket for P12,500.
Naturally, fans complained about the scarcity of tickets.
“This morning I called Araneta 9am, I was told they have upper/lower box and patron. They start selling at 10am daw. So I got there at 10am and there were a lot of people lined up already. In less than an hour sold out na. Gen Ad na lahat. And online selling wasn't even being done! No over the phone transactions etc. They just didn't have them. Schools daw meron,” said Gian Carlo through his Facebook post.
“They sold a few upper b and gen ad tickets only. Both Lasallians and Thomasians waited and still are waiting under the heat from as early as 7am. We are equally capable of buying. How inhuman, Araneta. How inhuman,” posted another UAAP fan Nona Charmaine Francisco.
Even UST’s star player Jeric Teng complained about the lack of tickets.
“Bakit ang hirap ng tickets? Come on!!!” he said through his Twitter account.
A picture of alleged scalping activity at the Araneta Coliseum was also making the rounds in social media sites.
The photo posted by Chrizeus Delton Batara showed a man in white or pink polo handing several tickets to an alleged scalper.

Francis Wakefield was one of the lucky fans who was able to get hold of general admission tickets.
He said he bought the two tickets for P80 each.
“Around 8:30 in the morning pa lang nakapila na ko. ‘Yung iba as early as 6 a.m. pumipila na. Nakuha ko’ng tickets bandang 1 p.m. na,’ he said.
Sandy Jimeno of the TicketNet explained that the UAAP allots 20% of the tickets to be sold online and at the gates.
“’Yung 80% po ay napupunta na po sa mga participating schools,” she said.
The Araneta Coliseum has a seating capacity of 22,000.
Game 2 between the UST Growling Tigers and the La Salle Green Archers will start at 3:30 p.m.
The Tigers lead the best-of-three series after beating the Archers, 73-72, in Game 1 last Wednesday.
