MANILA, Philippines – Meralco expects a tougher challenge from San Mig Coffee on Friday when they meet again in Game 3 of their best-of-5 semifinals series in the PBA Governors' Cup.
The Mixers drew first blood by beating the Bolts in Game 1, 83-73, on Sunday. But Meralco leveled the series, 1-all, through a 73-69 win in Game 2, two days later.
Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio said they were able to give San Mig Coffee a dose of their own medicine by holding the Mixers down to just 69 points in four quarters.
"Holding them to 69 speaks of our desire to assert ourselves defensively. But it’s gonna be harder from hereon," Gregorio said in the league website.
San Mig coach Tim Cone said their two day break should serve his wards well.
The Mixers went through a grueling schedule and a break will help them recuperate.
“It will give us a chance to recharge our batteries, physically and mentally,” said Cone. “Hopefully, we can get back on track.”
Game time between San Mig Coffee and Meralco will be at 7:15 p.m. at the Araneta Coliseum.
