MANILA – Zamboanga City courts are not yet in full operation as the city's Hall of Justice has yet to be repaired, a Supreme Court official said Wednesday.
Court Administrator Midas Marquez said while judges and court personnel have already been allowed to enter the Hall of Justice, court operations cannot yet go back to normal because of the damage the building sustained during the 20-day standoff between government forces and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels loyal to Nur Misuari.
"There is still no electricity in the building. Ninety percent of the glass windows have been shattered. Roof and walls have been damaged by mortars and gunfires. The rains have also entered the building. Also, one has to walk at least a kilometer to reach the HOJ as vehicles are not allowed to go near the premises," Marquez said.
Marquez said the Executive Judge has instructed male court personnel to clean the court premises. A panel is also set to be formed to address the concerns of the litigants.
