COTABATO CITY – At least 700 teachers in Maguindanao have refused to serve as board of election inspectors in the upcoming barangay polls in October.
The teachers already submitted their request to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Maguinanao and the central office in Manila.
The teachers who begged off were from the towns of Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Shariff Aguak, Shariff Saydona Mustapha, General Salipada K. Pendatun, Datu Piang ang Datu Abdullah Sangki.
Atty. Udtog Tago, Maguindanao provincial election supervisor, said the teachers declined to serve due to security concerns.
In the May 2013 mid term elections, two teachers who served as board of election inspectors were wounded in separate shooting incidents in the towns of Salipada K. Pendatun and Shariff Aguak.
Meanwhile, the Comelec has re-shuffled all of its 36 election officers in different towns in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
Tago said based on Comelec Resolution 97-84, the election officers in Maguindanao will be transferred to Lanao del Sur. Tago, however, will retain his position as Maguindanao election supervisor.
Lanao del Sur election officers will also be temporarily transfered to Maguindanao.
Atty. Nasib Yasin, Lanao del Sur provincial election supervisor, will be transfered to the Sulu.
