MANILA, Philippines – Former world champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire has begun training for his November rematch against Armenian foe Vic Darchinyan, and he has enlisted the help of his father, Nonito Sr.
On his Twitter account, Donaire posted a picture of himself working the mitts with his father in a Las Vegas gym.
“First time working with Papang since 2008,” Donaire tweeted. “He’s still faster than me! Feels good.”
Nonito Sr. was in his son’s corner when “The Filipino Flash” knocked out Darchiyan in their first meeting in July 2007, but they had a falling out. It was only recently that father and son reunited.
According to a Boxing Scene report, Donaire will return to Oxnard once his father returns to the Philippines to train another fighter.
Donaire is trying to recover from a humbling loss at the hands of Guillermo Rigondeaux of Cuba last April.
