MANILA – Emotions ran high during the grand finale of “The Voice of the Philippines” held Sunday night at the Resorts World Manila.
Mitoy Yonting of Team Lea was hailed as the show’s first-ever winner, while Team Sarah’s Klarisse de Guzman finished second.
Team Bamboo's Myk Perez and Team Apl's Janice Javier were the other two contestants in the Top 4 in the much-awaited finale of ABS-CBN’s hit talent search.
“Masayang masaya po ako. Pinagpala ako ngayong araw na ito. Maraming salamat sa Diyos at sa mga gumastos ng load nila,” Yonting said in an interview after his victory.
His coach Lea Salonga, meanwhile, said, “Ang nanay ko, kapag nanalo ako ng something, feeling niya nanalo din siya kasi may pinaghirapan din siya. Parang may nanalo ding anak ko na may ginawa siyang maganda. That’s how it feels.”
Aside from the Top 24 artists who all performed during the finale, the event was also graced by several celebrities both on and off stage.
Among the satrs who watched the finale show live at Resorts World were celebrity couple Angelica Panganiban and John Lloyd Cruz, beauty queen-actress Ruffa Gutierrez with her mother Annabelle Rama, beauty queen Miriam Quiambao, actress Iza Calzado, TV host Charlene Goznales and singers Gary Valenciano and Angeline Quinto.
Journey frontman Arnel Pineda and champion singer Jed Madela were also there as they opened the show with the Top 24 artists in a rocking mash-up of “We Will Rock You” and “I Love Rock and Roll.”
Shane Filan, former lead vocalist of Westlife, also performed with the Top 4 artists in a medley of the boy band’s biggest hits “Fool Again” and “Uptown Girl.”
