MANILA, Philippines – Meralco Bolts rookie Cliff Hodge stunned PBA fans when he fired off a tweet calling for the resignation of head coach Ryan Gregorio last night, following their 73-83 loss to the San Mig Coffee Mixers in game one of their semi-finals series in the Governors Cup.
“Coach Ryan should resign immediately before HE LOSES another game for the team!!!!” claimed a tweet from Hodge’s account (@therealchodge1), wherein he also tagged the team’s Twitter account, @TheMeralco Bolts.
The controversial tweet was deleted shortly afterward, and Hodge announced that his account had been hacked.
“Someone hacked my account. I will change my password,” he said.
Hodge also stressed that he has full confidence in Gregorio and in his team, and vows that they will recover from the Game 1 setback.
“I believe in Coach Ryan and my team. We will bounce back. For the people doubting our team, just wait and see how much we lay it out on the court next game,” he said.
Later, he tweeted: “I would give my life on that basketball court. I want to win for my team more than anything else in the world. I love this game and I play all out for my teammates and my coaches and our company.”
“For the people who really think I would turn my back on my team and coaches really don’t know me as a person,” he added.
Hodge led Meralco with 19 points in Game 1.
