Korean sparmate fails to make flight
MANILA – Manny Pacquiao had to postpone his sparring session after his Korean sparring partner failed to catch his flight to the Philippines.
Min Wook-Kim, the WBO Orient-Pacific welterweight champion, was supposed to spar with Pacquiao on Thursday, but the Korean had a misunderstanding with his manager before his departure for Manila.
Former world champion Gerry Peñalosa, who has been coordinating with Min’s camp, told PNA’s Eddie Alinea that the Korean is making arrangements so he will be able to spar with Pacquiao by next week.
“Tumawag sa akin kagabi at sinabing hindi daw natuloy pagpunta dito, kaya tinawag ko agad si Manny to inform him of the unexpected development,” he said. “Inaayos daw ni Min mismo para siya matuloy next week.”
Meanwhile, Peñalosa said he already asked his brother Jonathan to look for a Filipino boxer who will serve as Pacquiao’s temporary sparring mate.
“Luluwas sa Maynila si Manny sa Sabado for a social commitment yata at dito na muna mag-ensayo. Nagpahanap nga siya ng makaka-ensayo kaya sinabihan ko si Jonathan na kumuha ng makaka-spar kahit isang araw lang,” he said.
Pacquiao is preparing for his comeback fight against Brandon Rios on November 24.
It will be his first bout since losing by knockout to Juan Manuel Marquez last December.
