Comelec says ready for barangay elections
MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) assured the public of its readiness to conduct the barangay elections on October 28.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes, Commissioners Grace Padaca and Christian Lim, and other officials of the poll body inspected the non-accountable election supplies set for deployment at the Philpost compound in Manila on Friday morning.
Deployment for the non-accountable election forms and supplies began last September 23 and will be completed on October 23, 5 days before the polls, said Dir. Julio Thaddeus Hernan, chairman of the Comelec Packing and Shipping Committee.
The accountable forms such as the official ballots, elections returns, and canvassing forms will be deployed from October 18 to October 23, he added.
As practiced in previous elections, these forms and supplies will be deployed first to the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in the far south, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) in the far north; the dispatch of supplies will be last for the National Capital Region (NCR).
This is the first time for the poll body to avail of the services of Philpost as one of its 3 forwarders for the election supplies, the other two are 2 Go and Air 21.
Philpost will dispatch the supplies for NCR, regions 3, 4-A, 8, and 9, while Air 21 will deliver for the whole of Luzon.
2 Go will dispatch the supplies for Visayas and Mindanao, except for regions 8 and 9.
An inventory of ballot boxes at the local level is ongoing to determine which of these ballot boxes may be used in the upcoming polls.
Should there be a need to augment these ballot boxes, Comelec will dispatch the ballot boxes on stand-by at the Philpost compound.
There are over 54 million registered voters qualified to cast their votes for the barangay polls.
