MANILA -- The Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 has begun hearing businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles' petition for bail for the serious illegal detention case filed by pork barrel scam key whistle-blower Benhur Luy.
Eight witnesses are set to be presented by the prosecution, including Benhur Luy, Gertrudes Luy, Marina Sula, NBI supervising agent Rodante Berou, Mary Arlene Baltazar, Merlina Pablo Sunas, Maria Flor Vistal Villanueva and Anabelle Luy - Reario .
Napoles' camp, on the other hand, will be presenting 17 witnesses to prove the case is weak.
The court, presided by Judge Elmo Alameda, will be holding morning and afternoon sessions to accommodate the witnesses. The hearing began at around 9 a.m. today.
Napoles' lawyer, Lorna Kapunan, said they filed the petition to post bail on the grounds that the evidence of guilt against her client is weak.
Kapunan added that Napoles should be released from detention so she can focus on her plunder case before the Office of the Ombudsman. - with reports from Zyann Amborsio, ABS-CBN News; ANC
