'Juan dela Cruz' remains unbeaten in timeslot
MANILA -- Driven by revenge, the character portrayed by Zsa Zsa Padilla in "Juan dela Cruz" has transformed into the feared "manananggal," wreaking havoc in the streets of Manila as seen in the hit series' episode aired Monday.
Still in mourning over her son's (Arron Villaflor) death, Laura (Padilla) strikes a deal with the evil Peruha (Diana Zubiri) to take down common enemies -- Samuel (Albert Martinez) and Juan (Coco Martin).
To carry out their plan, Laura agrees to be given powers that would allow her to become the "manananggal" at will. As the feared creature, the violet-skinned Laura is seen without legs and with huge bat-like wings preying on members of the "Kapatiran."
The September 23 episode of "Juan dela Cruz" featuring the first glimpse of Padilla as the "manananggal" drew strong viewership nationwide, according to data from multi-national market research group Kantar Media, despite airing in the same timeslot as a new rival program on GMA-7.
Remaining the No. 1 TV show in the Philippines on Monday, "Juan dela Cruz" garnered a national TV rating of 33.5%, while the pilot episode of "Kahit Nasaan Ka Man" only registered 17.2%.
Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes, representing 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population.
"Juan dela Cruz" is part of ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida block, and airs weeknights after the network's flagship newscast "TV Patrol."
