MANILA—Netizens shared their thoughts on whether or not Janet Lim Napoles, the alleged mastermind behind the pork barrel scam, should appear before the Senate.
The Blue Ribbon Committee chairman TG Guingona questioned Justice Secretary Leila De Lima on why she signed a subpoena for the appearance of whistleblowers before the Senate and not Napoles.
Guingona insisted that Napoles must appear before the Senate.
According to him, the Blue Ribbon Committee has the power to compel people to come to their legislative investigations and there is a difference between filing a case under the Ombudsman as opposed to doing so before the Court of Appeals.
However, Senate President Franklin Drilon accepted the advice of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales not to summon Napoles, who has been charged with others in connection with the scam.
On Facebook, netizens agreed that Napoles should attend the Senate hearing on pork barrel scam.
Daniella Oberes agreed saying, “Siya ang nakakaalam ng lahat, kaya dapat lang siyang humarap at kailangan nyang explain from where she get all those assets that she has now, kung hindi nga galing sa PDAF,and through that if malinis nga ang konsensya nya eh di malilinis pa yung pangalan nya.”
Chester Guillem Dapat wanted assurance that everyone involved in the pork scam will get a fair trial. “Dapat talaga, to ensure that each and everyone deserves a fair trial. And the Filipino people should have the right to know the truth behind this pork barrel scam," he said.
Miklos Magtolis Sumael proposed a fair way to go through with these trials. He said “Oo. Dapat po siyang humarap sa hearing sa senado. At kung haharap siya dapat kompleto lahat nang mga senado hindi lang yung mga senado nakikilatis sa kanya kung hindi yung mga sangkot na sina Revilla,Enrile,Estrada. Dapat damay damay na ang lahat! God bless the Philippines!”
Sandy Puzon Melicor said the hearings should be televised and there should be no delay for justice. "Yes! And it should be televised. She owes the Filipinos a huge explanation to how she took the money. Everyone has been waiting for her trial since day 1. No delay for justice," she said.
On Twitter, some people said Napoles' presence at the Senate was not necessary.
Marilousyj (@assiprofm) said “Hindi na. Hintayin na lang sa ombudsman. Mileage lang habol ng senador na mag-iinsist.”
Ron Mia (@rojan88) was concerned about the financial aspect of these trials. “Hindi na siguro, gastos na namn yun eh. Magkano na naman gagastusin para itransport sya from Laguna. Let the Ombudsman take care of it," he said.
Batang Tustin (@jher0008) placed his trust on the Ombudsman to do her job. He said “Let the Ombudsman do their job. Baka ma compromise ang mga ebidensiya sa Senate. Sana lang live rin ang Ombudsman hearing!”
Other Twitter users agreed that Napoles should in fact show up for a Senate hearing.
According to Franny M. Francia (@frans_francia30), “Dapat syang humarap para mapabilis ang usad ng kaso dahil habang tumatagal isyu sa pork barrel bumababa ang ekonomiya.”
Boeyt (@boeytatanoso) shared the same sentiment as Franny, he believes that this issue cannot wait and has to be fixed as soon as possible.
