MANILA, Philippines – Two separate chess tournaments will be held at Marikina and Quezon City this coming Saturday, May 11, with Marikina hosting the Riverpark Active Chess Tournament and QC holding the Novelty Summer Chess Meet.
The Marikina Active Chess Tournament will be held at the Seniors Citizens Area in Riverpark, Marikina City, and will feature an appearance from Asia’s first Grand Master Eugene Torre.
The competition starts at 9:30 a.m. Players with a rating of 1950-and-below are invited to join.
The Marikina tournament offers a prize of P4,000 to the champion, P2,500 to the runner-up, P1,500 to the third placer, P800 to the fourth placer and P700 to the fifth placer.

Meanwhile, the Novelty Summer Chess Meet will be held at the Jackman Plaza Munoz in Quezon City and is open to players with ratings of 1975-and-below.
The champion will receive a cash prize of P6,000 and a trophy, while the runner-up will receive a prize of P3,000 and a trophy.
The winner of the kiddies division (14-years-old and below) will also receive a P2,000 prize and a trophy.
