CHICAGO—Recent Filipino immigrant Mike Bolante is a rising young DJ in Chicago’s legendary night club scene.  Bolante’s recent opening sets for Grammy-nominated DJ Andy Caldwell at the Spy Bar could be the big mainstream break he has been waiting for.

“To have the pleasure of opening for him (Caldwell), yes, it is a big pleasure.  Also playing in I think what is considered the best club in Chicago—Spy Bar—hey, not all DJs can get in there!” Bolante said about his recent breakthrough.

DJ Mike came to the U.S. in 2003 to study international business at harvard University, then moved to Arizona.  While studying for his masters degree,he started DJ’ing for local parties.  He now produces his own music and records under Roc-It productions…

Bolante is only on a temporary work visa.  He, along with his mother and siblings plan to go back to the Philippines.  He plans on DJ’ing in Asia while his family reunites with his dad—former agriculture undersecretary Jocjoc Bolante.

DJ Mike stands by his father’s side when it comes to Jocjoc’s alleged involvement in the fertilizer scam.

“I do love my Dad, and regardless of what they say about him, he’s my Dad and I think he paid his dues,” DJ Mike said.  Although the younger Bolante’s original plan was to become a businessman, being in the business of music was not quite what his father had in mind.

“I find my Dad the coolest Dad to have. I know he is not a big fan of what I’m doing.  He wants me in business, but despite that he supported me unconditionally, and the least I could do is support him unconditionally as well,” Bolante said.

For now, DJ Mike says he will continue to keep Chicago clubbers dancing to his house music until he goes home.
