An alliance of migrant workers on Friday said that the three siblings killed in Davao City were the children of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) based in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, John Leonard Monterona, Migrante-Middle East Regional Coordinator condemned the killings.
“This another round of massacre, this time in Davao City, where the victims are children of a fellow OFW based in Saudi Arabia, is indeed very outrageous, nerve-cracking, and a work of despicable person who deserves nothing but punishment of incarceration for a lifetime,” Monterona said.
News reports disclosed that the victims, Maribel Dapitan, 15, and her brothers Marvin, 12, and Melvin, 10, were found dead inside their home in Purok 1, Manay Village in Davao City.
Migrante International Davao chapter said the victims were murdered on Wednesday while their mother was in Leyte province.
“We are still trying to contact the father of the victims who is an OFW in Saudi Arabia, but on Migrante-Davao information, the OFW father is preparing to be home today,” Monterona said.
Monterona called on the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) office in Davao City to provide the necessary assistance to the family of the victims especially since their father is an OFW.
“We are likewise calling Davao City local officials to push for the investigation and direct the local police to immediately conduct manhunt operation so that despicable criminals involved on this brutal crime will be put behind bars for the rest of their lives,” said Monterona.
“This is indeed a sad moment for our fellow OFWs and their families that after a journalist-husband of a Kuwait-based OFW was massacred in Ampatuan, Maguindanao as among the 57 victims, then it was followed by the massacre of an OFW’s children in Davao City,” Monterona added.
