ZAMBOANGA – A family member of a Filipino migrant worker has sought the help of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to rescue a kin who was allegedly abused by her employer in Dubai.

Nina, from Sitio Balibag, Barangay Nanan Payao municipality in Zamboanga Sibugay, said her sister was allegedly sexually and physically abused by her employer sometime this month.

Nina received a call from her sister after she escaped from her employer’s house. The OFW initially sought the help of the Philippine post in Dubai but was allegedly denied of any assistance.

OWWA Regional Director Angie Angella promised to coordinate with their officer in Dubai to immediately conduct rescue operations.

According to Angella, normal procedures would require a negotiation between OWWA and the complainant's employer.

Meanwhile, Angella reported the repatriation of another OFW from Jordan. The OFW, whom Angella declined to name, is a native of Lamitan, Basilan.

She said the OFW came home mentally disturbed and seemed to have suffered from work stress as she also worked for her employer’s extended family.
