A Filipino in Las Vegas is in police custody in connection with the gruesome 2016 discovery of a dead body wrapped in a sleeping bag and dumped along an interstate highway.
Christopher Parlade, 32, is facing two charges of open murder and grand larceny of an auto in the death of Dennis Katz.
Katz’s body was found wrapped in a zip-tied sleeping bag underneath a couch near interstate 15 in October 2016.
Officials say the cause of Katz’s death was asphyxia with blunt force trauma to the head.
Police connected Parlade to the homicide over a year later, in December of 2017, when they found Katz’s stolen 2005 Lexus.
According to the police report, witnesses say there was a physical altercation between Katz and Parlade.
Parlade is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at the justice court. He remains in jail with no bail set.
