SOUTH COTABATO — A man and a woman were found dead in Polomolok municipality early Friday morning.

The victims, identified as Raul and Ofelia Alitao, sustained gunshot wounds to their heads and bodies and were left in a pineapple plantation in Barangay Palkan.

According to the police, the two were possibly killed Thursday night.

They retrieved two spent shells from a caliber-.45 pistol in the area, as well as the couple’s personal belongings, which included a bag with cash.

According to Senior Police Officer 1 Gebson Gloria, they also found a motorcycle at the scene.

The Alitaos had a small store in the public market, and usually closed shop at 10 p.m. prior to going straight home to Barangay Koronadal Proper, said their relatives, who weren't aware if the couple had any problems.

“Wala naman akong alam na problema iyang mag-asawa. Kasi kung meron, mag-kwento talaga iyan sila,” said Dodong Abines, a relative of the victims.

(I don't know if they had problems. If they did, they'll tell me about them.)

The Alitao children said they tried to contact their parents on Thursday, but could not reach Raul’s phone.

An investigation remains ongoing.
