MANILA (2nd UPDATE)—President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday met with the families of workers trapped inside a burning mall in Maa, Davao City.

At least 29 employees were trapped inside NCCC mall because of a fire that started at about 9:35 a.m. on the mall's third floor.

Employees of SSI call center have been trapped in their fourth-floor office, Davao City Police said in a statement.

As of 10 p.m., fire officials have yet to extinguish the blaze.

There were no reported casualties at the time this story was first posted.

Duterte also entered the NCCC Mall for about 7 minutes.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte joined the president in speaking with the families in a restaurant near the burning mall. 

 

CBCP president and Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles conducted a mass inside the premises for the employees' families.

Media were not allowed on the premises where the president spoke with the relatives.
