MANILA - Vice President Leni Robredo said she wishes “patience” for President Rodrigo Duterte this Christmas, as officials can't be arguing all the time.
“Sa gitna ng maraming pagtutuligsa, kailangan makahanap tayo ng points na tayo ay mag a-agree kasi hindi naman pwedeng nagaaway-away,” she said in a chance interview.
(In the midst of disagreements, we need to find common points for agreement because we cannot always be arguing.)
Robredo added that her criticisms towards some of Duterte’s policies are a call for the President to give more attention to certain issues.
“Yung mga pagpuna, hindi naman noon ibig sabihin na inaaway natin siya. Yung pagpuna ay pagnanais yun na bigyan ng sapat na atensyon yung mga bagay na dapat may atensyon,” she said.
(The criticisms do not mean that we are fighting with him. The criticisms are a call for him to give attention to things that should be attended to.)
She added: “Kung may pagkukulang ang isa, magbibigay ng pasensya ang isa. Paghingi rin siguro ng pagpasensya mula sa bahagi niya.”
(If one has shortcomings, the other should be patient. I would also like to ask patience from him.)
Robredo said she now has more time to focus on the “Angat Buhay” project—her flagship program as vice president, since she resigned from the Duterte Cabinet.
“Yung Angat Buhay mayroong 15 adopted municipalities all over the country, kaya ngayon mas marami na tayong panahong umikot sa ating adopted municipalities,” she said.
(The Angat Buhay has 15 adopted municipalities which is why I now have more time to go around the adopted municipalities.)
After leaving her post as Housing Secretary, Robredo has been more vocal in expressing her interest to be the voice of the opposition to make Duterte listen.
