MANILA - Former President and Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Wednesday denied that she will be replacing House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
In a statement, Arroyo said she was forced to make the denial after hearing about reports she was poised to take over the highest post in the lower house.
"I categorically deny that. I don't have plans of taking his [Alvarez's] place," she said.
Earlier, Alvarez also denied that he will reprise his role as transportation secretary to pave the way for Arroyo.
“Hindi ko alam kung natutulog yung nagsasabi nun pero sa tingin ko naman kwentong kutsero lang yan, ginu-good time lang kayo,” he said.
(I don't know if the person circulating this is asleep but it's just a made-up story. Someone is trying to mess with you.)
Alvarez had served as transportation chief during the Arroyo administration but said it would be a demotion if he were to revert back to his old post.
