MANILA - Three more magistrates of the Supreme Court have expressed willingness to attend the House justice panel hearing on the impeachment of Chief Justice Sereno in January 2018.
Speaking to radio DZMM Wednesday, Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali, House justice committee chair, said the 3 are Justices Samuel Martires, Mariano Del Castillo and Bienvenido Reyes.
Umali said Justice Martires will shed light on the delay of grant of benefits for retired Supreme Court workers, while Justice Castillo will talk about the corruption issues.
Justice Reyes, meanwhile, will discuss Sereno's role in the row between the Ilocos 6 and magistrates of the Court of Appeals, among others.
Three current justices already attended the impeachment hearing -- Noel Tijam, Francis Jardeleza, and Teresita Leonardo-de Castro. Retired Justice Arturo Brion also attended the last proceedings.
The Supreme Court has 14 associate justices.
Apart from the mentioned issues, Sereno is also accused of misdeclaring her wealth and having an extravagant lifestyle.
She has denied any wrongdoing and refused to attend the hearings after the justice panel barred her lawyers from participating in the impeachment proceedings.
