The camp of Bohol board member Nino Rey Boniel on Thursday said it will appeal a Supreme Court resolution which moves the venue of trial to the Cebu Regional Trial Court (RTC) from the Talibon RTC in Bohol.

"We are going to file for a motion for reconsideration sa Supreme Court, said Boniel's lawyer Handel Lagunay.

Boniel is the prime suspect in the killing of his wife Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Boniel and has been charged with serious illegal detention and kidnapping, and parricide.

Lagunay said "it is unfair" that they were not given a copy of the resolution and that their opinion on the matter was not sought.

The SC resolution stated that the trial and detention of Boniel and his alleged cohorts will be moved to Cebu where his parricide case was filed.

Lagunay said that based on the law, the place for the proceedings should be where the alleged omission of the crime was.

Lagunay said that it would be inconvenient to transport witnesses material back and forth to Cebu for the trial.

Despite being detained, Boniel continues his duty as a provincial board member.

His administrative assistant, Glen Aranjuez, continues to receive documents in his office which he sends to Boniel once a week at the Talibon District Jail for his signature.

Aranjuez has been given the authority by acting Vice Governor Benjie Arcamo to sit in as Boniel's representative during committee meetings.
