Five fishermen rescued near Apo Island

Five fishermen, including three minors, were rescued Wednesday after their paddle boat capsized in waters off San Juan, Siquijor Tuesday night.

The victims, all without life jackets, were rescued from the hull of a capsized paddle boat in choppy waters off Apo Island, Negros Oriental.

The five are Roy Astillerio, 16, Al Shane Balios, 15, and Kent Nixel Abing, 14 years old, Roland Macion and Ruel Tugdang.

The five were fishing in San Juan's waters when their paddle boat sank about 7 p.m. Tuesday due to strong waves. The five were rescued by their fellow fishermen.

Astellerio and Balios are still confined at the Siquijor Provincial Hospital due to dehydration while Abing was allowed to go home in Barangay Solongon, San Juan.

Macion and Tugdang both suffered minor bruises in the incident.
