MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday urged the public to emulate the patriotism of national hero Andres Bonifacio by dedicating their lives to a worthy cause and engaging in national issues.
In a message marking the 153rd birth anniversary of Bonifacio, Duterte said, "May this occasion serve as a reminder for us to live up to the spirit of Bonifacio, whose spirit remains patriotic unfettered and independent."
"Every waking day is an invitation to dedicate our lives to a worthy cause; to uplift the quality of life of our countrymen; and to bring back the pride and honor in our identity as a people," he added.
"Our government calls on the public to get involved in community and national issues that affect our lives. May we all find strength to tap into our collective voices so that we can know ourselves better and understand our struggles in history."
Various groups mounted a program in Mendiola, Manila today in remembrance of the Father of Philippine Revolution's birthday and in support of the administration's policies.
Countering their assembly were activist groups who assembled in the same area to denounce the burial of deposed president Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani as well as the alleged failure of government to stop labor contractualization.
