MANILA - Newly-appointed Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Benjamin Delos Santos said he will implement new policies that aim to "demystify" the penitentiary.
"I plan to demystify the penitentiary. Baka magkaroon kami ng Facebook page, Instagram, Twitter. A whistleblower policy, program within the bureau to report any anomalies or corruption or shenanigans," he told reporters.
Delos Santos added that he will show the public the rehabilitation of the bureau.
"We will show the people what the rehabilitation aspect is," he said.
According to Delos Santos, he will look into new livelihood projects, especially after the Department of Agriculture (DA) offered to provide seedlings and fertilizers for the inmates at the National Bilibid Prison (NBP).
"Source of livelihood para part na ng programa. Pagka may pinagkakaabalahan sila, baka sakaling imbes na shabu ang kaiinin, gulay," he said.
He also said they will be reviewing the policy on conjugal visits to prevent any irregularities.
"Pero titingnan natin kasi minsan 'yang conjugal conjugal na 'yan, maraming lumulusot," Delos Santos said.
Delos Santos replaced retired police Chief Superintendent Rolando Asuncion, who was the officer-in-charge of BuCor since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed presidency.
