KORONADAL CITY - A 29-year-old construction worker was arrested after he raped his five-year old niece Sunday night in Barangay Carpenter Hill in Koronadal City.
The suspect admitted to the crime.
“Naka-drugs ako, marijuana. Nagalaw ko yung bata. Lasing ako masyado, iyun na ang nagawa ko sa kanya,” the suspect said.
(I was on drugs, I used marijuana. I raped the child. I was too drunk, I did that to her.)
Police investigation showed the victim was on her way home after she watched television in their neighbor’s house.
The suspect approached the victim and carried her to a grassy area. He then punched the victim on the abdomen and raped her.
The victim was discovered after her father heard her shouting.
The suspect fled but he was nabbed in a nearby gasoline station in the said barangay.
“Nung makita na yung bata, half-naked. Yun natunton na ang suspek na tumakbo kasi hinabol din ng mga tao doon sa palibot,” said Police Superintendent Barney Condes, chief of Koronadal City Police.
(The victim was half-naked when found. The suspect attempted to escape but residents went after him.)
According to the mother of the victim, the suspect is her cousin. She added that he came from Palimbang in Sultan Kudarat five months ago and was looking for a job in Koronadal City
They even built a shanty for him beside their house.
Police have filed a rape case against the suspect.
In South Cotabato, a total of 69 rape cases have been reported in the Women and Children’s Protection Desk of the South Cotabato Police Provincial Office.
Out of this number, 26 cases have minors as victims.
