A commuter van crashed into an electric post on Thursday noon

DAVAO - Twenty-three people were injured, including the driver, after a commuter van crashed into an electric post on Thursday noon at the boundary of Barangay Lasang and Barangay Licanan in Davao City.

Among those injured were four children and 12 senior citizens who were heading to Davao Oriental.

Two were critically injured.

According to SPO4 Arnel Masauding of Bunawan Police, the van allegedly overtook a trailer truck in pursuit of another commuter van to pick up passengers.

"According sa mga nakakita naay other van nga murag nag-gukdanay sila ba. Nag-apas siguro kinsay una makakuha og pasahero," SPO4 Masauding said.

(According to witnesses, the commuter van chased another van to catch up with passengers ahead.)

The victims were immediately brought to Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City.

Police will place the driver of the van, Kim Dumaan, under investigation as soon as he is discharged from the hospital.
