The police official who led the raid where Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa was eventually killed allegedly demanded P3 million from the mayor's son, suspected big-time drug lord Kerwin Espinosa, Senator Manny Pacquiao revealed Tuesday.

Pacquio recalled on ANC's Headstart pieces of his one-hour conversation with the younger Espinosa, who was repatriated to the country last week after being arrested in Abu Dhabi.

Other than linking Senator Leila de Lima to drugs, Pacquiao said Espinosa also named Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 8 Director Marvin Marcos as to being one of the local cops who benefited from the illegal drug trade.

"Ang sabi niya, yung si Marcos [sic] kinausap daw siya dahil tumatakbo daw yung misis, and then hiningian siya ng P3-million," he said.

(He said that Marcos talked to him because his wife was running for office, and asked for P3 million from him.)

"Hiningian siya ng P3 million, and then nagtawaran pa. Malaki ata ang P3 million. Sabi niya P2.5[million] lang. And then hindi talaga P2.5[million] ang naibigay kundi P1.5 [million] lang muna pauna," he added.

(P3 million was demanded from him, and then they haggled. P3 million was probably too big. He said only P2.5 million. And then P2.5 million was not given, but only P1.5 million initially)

The money, according to Pacquiao's account of Kerwin's statement, was handed to Marcos by the late Mayor, while the younger Espinosa stayed in the car to prevent people from seeing him.

"Hindi na siya bumaba kasi baka maraming makakita."

In the Senate inquiry on Espinosa's killing earlier this month, Marcos claimed that he was outside the compound of Baybay City Sub Provincial Jail when the raiding team served the search warrant against Espinosa, who was killed allegedly after a shootout.

Marcos also refuted a news report that Espinosa, who was earlier tagged by President Duterte as a "narco-politician," begged for his life before he was killed.

RICHARD GOMEZ NOT NAMED

Pacquiao said Kerwin named other elected officials as having links to the illegal drug trade. He said he will wait until Kerwin's affidavit is presented in the Senate probe on the Espinosa killing on Wednesday.

He said the younger Espinosa did not mention to him the name of actor and now Ormoc, Leyte Mayor Richard Gomez.

"Hindi niya nabanggit sa akin," he said.

(He did not mention that to me.)

The neophyte senator said he believes Espinosa is telling the truth.

"Sa una kong ano sa kaniya nagsasabi naman siya. Sa tingin ko, nagsasabi naman siya ng totoo," he said.

"Sabi niya nga sa akin, 'Pinatay nila ang tatay ko para hindi ako magsalita; pero ngayon, magsasalita talaga ako. Sasabihin ko lahat ng mga tumanggap at nabigyan ko ng pera," he added.
