SOUTH COTABATO - A couple and a businessman were killed in separate shootings in South Cotabato on Monday, according to police.
Former barangay captain Rodel Sicharon and his wife Lani were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the town of Tampakan while businessman Elizaldo Legahon was killed by motorcycle-riding assailants in Koronadal City.
The Sicharons were homebound to Barangay Pulabato on their motorcycle when they were ambushed by a group of armed men waiting in a farm lot. Twenty six spent bullet shells were recovered from the crime scene, police said.
One of the couple's daughters, Reggie Mae, said their parents received a death threat before the incident.
“Matagal na iyan, before pa noong election. Kaya nga nung nandito ako palagi ko silang sinasabayan. Nasa Davao kasi ako nag-aaral," she said
[The threat was since the election. That's why when I was here, I would always accompany them. I am studying in Davao.]
Police said they are still investigating the incident.
“We are looking on various angles like it could be personal or land conflict. We are still investigating if the killing is linked to politics. I could not tell you yet,” police Senior Inspector Harold Cornel, chief of Tampakan police station, said.
On the other hand, Legahon was visiting the construction site of his gasoline station along Gensan Drive, Barangay Zone 3 when a gunman approached him and shot him on the head.
After he fell to the ground, six more shots were fired. The gunman escaped with his companion while riding on a motorcycle headed for Barangay Concepcion.
“It could be related to his business or there was a grudge on him. Tinitingnan pa po namin ang lahat ng anggulo,” said the investigating officer, police Senior Inspector Joseph Carlos Madrid.

The family of the victim declined to give a statement.
