MANILA - Philippine National Police Chief (PNP) Ronald Dela Rosa commended his men on Tuesday for the security measures laid down during the ASEAN Summit and for standing their ground against protesters.

“Yung ginawa niyo kahapon, that's commendable, for standing your ground and being true to your mandate. Ang instruction sa inyo ay to prevent them from moving forward at manggulo doon sa ongoing Asean summit. And you did very good,” Dela Rosa said during the visit.

Dela Rosa gave the PNP a score of 9.5 out of 10 for maintaining security during the summit.

“I'm very happy, barring the complications towards the end of the Summit, I can say outstanding preparations. Sana wala nang mangyaring hindi maganda,” Dela Rosa said.

He also defended the PNP’s use of the LRAD or long range acoustic device to disperse the rallyists. The PNP Chief said they are open to any investigation related to their use of the sonic device.

“Hindi naman pupuwedeng babanggain mo na lang ang mga pulis na nakaharang, sipain mo, tapunan mo ng kung anu-ano. We have to defend ouselves. Kailangang depensahan natin ang mga sarili natin,” Dela Rosa explained.

After the ASEAN summit, policemen from the province will be allowed to tour Metro Manila before going back to their respective assignments.
