BAGUIO CITY -- Two people died while four others were injured after a passenger jeepney fell into a 153-foot ravine in Baguio City on Saturday morning.
The jeepney, which was carrying six passengers, fell into a ravine in Barangay Lower Atok Trail, Baguio City.
According to police, the driver of the jeepney, Bonyrick Verceles, asked permission from his passengers to get his license from his house which was a only a few meters from where he parked his jeepney.
"Ini-hand brake ko 'yung jeep. Ang mali ko nakalimutan kong patayin 'yung makina," Verceles said.
(I hand-braked the jeepney. My mistake was I forgot to turn of the engine.)
When Verceles left, the jeepney rolled backwards and fell to the ravine.
One of the passengers who died was identified as Henry Lucao, who jumped from the jeepney but was still run over by the vehicle.
The other casualty was identified as Rose Fakian.
Injured were Daisylyn Gregorio, Christopher Miano, Reysel Paterno, and Marissa Villanueva.
All of the injured victims have already gone home except for Villanueva, who is still at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.
Police said one of the kin of the victims has filed charges against Verceles for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple physical injuries.
