NEGROS OCCIDENTAL—The National Bureau of Investigation arrested Friday afternoon a suspected illegal recruiter in an entrapment operation in Manapla town here.
Attorney Renoir Baldovino, chief of NBI-Bacolod, identified the suspect as Mark Timothy Aquino.
Aquino's arrest came after he allegedly offered non-existent overseas work to several people in exchange for a huge sum of money.
According to two complainants, Aquino promised them jobs as caregivers in the United Kingdom with a salary of P132,000.
After paying Aquino P26,000 to process their applications, they went to Manila on Tuesday to get documents for their trip, but it turned out they were fake upon checking at the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.
The complainants then reported the incident to authorities.
An entrapment operation was conducted by the NBI, which caught Aquino receiving money that served as payment for the victims' work visas.
Sought for comment by ABS-CBN News, Aquino refused to be interviewed.
Charges of illegal recruitment and estafa will be filed against him.
