Ex-convict Henry Dalo faces charges of frustrated homicide after hacking a farmer.

BURGOS - A farmer was rushed to a hospital in Laoag City after he was allegedly attacked by a drinking companion with a scythe.

Carmelo Failona, 37, a resident of Barangay Bobon, Burgos, Ilocos Norte, supposedly sustained wounds on his head and right hand on Saturday in an attack by Henry Dalo, 57.

According to investigators, Failona and Dalo were drinking at a party when a misunderstanding ensued between them.

"Dumalo sila sa isang birthday party. Nang makarami sila ng inom, nagkaroon sila ng hindi pagkakaunawaan," Police Senior Inspector Dionisio Baldillo said.

(They went to a birthday party and when they had too much to drink, a misunderstanding ensued.)

The suspect went home to get his scythe, then allegedly attacked the victim upon his return.

Failona refused to give a statement to media. However, Dalo claimed the attack was an accident, and that he also suffered bruises after Failona threw a bottle of beer at him.

"Binato niya ako ng bote ng alak kaya ako nasugatan tapos nang pauwi na ako biglang tumakbo siya papunta sa akin na may hawak uling bote at hindi ko sinadyang tagain siya," Dalo said.

(He threw a bottle of alcohol at me which is why I got bruised and then when I was heading home, he ran towards me with another bottle and I accidentally hacked him.)

Dalo, who was previously imprisoned for 10 years at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa on a homicide conviction, faces charges of frustrated homicide.
