ILIGAN CITY- The mass grave of fatalities of the Marawi siege in Barangay Dalipuga had no candles or flowers as locals expressed doubts on the identities of those buried here.

People who passed by the mass grave said they could not simply pay their respects since they were unsure whether the grave contained remains of innocent civilians or Maute extremists who attacked the Islamic city of Marawi.

Buried in the mass grave are 15 fatalities that were already decomposing when extracted from the main battleground last June.

The fatalities, identified only through numeric inscriptions on their graves, are yet to be recognized even after a DNA test.

Hundreds of victims of the 5-month long war are still searching for their missing relatives in the hopes that their loved ones made it out of the besieged city alive.
