MANILA - The northeast monsoon or amihan season has begun, signaling the onset of colder weather associated with Christmas, state weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday.
Cold and dry air from China has shifted towards the northeast of Luzon, indicating the start of amihan, PAGASA meteorologist Obet Badrina told DZMM.
The amihan season will reach its peak in Metro Manila around January, said Badrina.
It will also bring light to moderate rains to Metro Manila, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Cordillera and Cagayan Valley on Tuesday.
A low pressure area meanwhile was spotted 125 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, said Badrina.
The brewing storm will bring scattered rains in Visayas and the regions of Mimaropa, Bicol, Caraga, Davao, Northern Mindanao and Calabarzon, he said.
