A Grab driver was killed and his car stolen by unidentified suspects, the ride-hailing service said Saturday.
In a statement, Grab said Gerardo Amolato Maquidato Jr. was shot then pushed out of his car by suspects who posed as passengers in Pasay, Thursday.
Maquidato was driving a silver Toyota Innova with plate number YV 7109, according to Grab.
It added that the victim was recognized last year for giving a free ride to a sick passenger.
Grab said that Maquidato last year picked up a passenger who was on her way to acquire bags of blood for her dialysis and did not charge her.
“Our prayers and sympathies go out to Mr. Maquidato’s family. He was a good father to his four children, a good friend to many of his fellow drivers, and a good driver who was always willing to outserve his passengers,” it said.
The ride-hailing app said it will work on decreasing carnapping incidents, after six cases involving Grab cars were recorded this year.
Grab said it is coordinating with the Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group and urged its partner-drivers to stay vigilant.
